Drift Assessment #3

3. Describe three surprises or unexpected situations you encountered on your Drifts and in the days that followed. The surprise could stem from your expectations that conflicted with "on the ground" realities, cultural or social issues of which you were previously unaware, feelings and reactions that you did not expect to have, appearances and soundings of things you did not expect, good or bad outcomes of "on the spot" decisions you had to make, or the discovery of "deeper" realities in the materials you brought home. (Again, skip anything technology-related!)

The first thing that shocked me was how crazy my Drift 2 strategy was to follow. My strategy was to change directions whenever a tan vehicle crossed my path. I definitely didn’t anticipate how many tan cars I was about to encounter. The second thing that surprised me was how rude some people can be. For example, on my drift 1 walk I was flicked off five times while receiving one sound clip and I was yelled at for trying to record an older man using his snow blower. The final unexpected situation that arose was how all street signs have contrasting colors. I didn’t notice this odd fact at first but after reviewing my information collected it quickly became apparent to me that they are.
